The next time you’re in need of a breath of fresh air, consider making a weekend escape from Newark to the Poconos. At about two hour’s driving distance, the trip will fly by, and you’ll be amazed at the transformation of the landscape. Leave the traffic and the high rises behind, and head for the lush greenery, fresh air, and rising mountains of the Poconos.
The Drive There
To get started on your road trip from Newark to the Poconos, you have your choice between two routes. You can take I-280W and I-80W, or head down I-78 W. For the first route, take a look at our NYC to Poconos road trip suggestions; it follows the same route! To extend your road trip a bit, I-78W is the way to go. Follow this until you reach Easton, then turn northward via PA-33 N, which will take you the rest of the way.
If you’re not in a hurry, enhance your road trip and stop at a few places along the way!
- If you have kids (or kids at heart) with you, you won’t want to miss the Crayola experience at the Crayola factory in Easton! You’ll find dozens of hands-on, creative activities that will delight the little ones.
- If you have any music enthusiasts with you, they’ll be interested to know that once you turn northward, you’ll pass close by the Martin Guitar factory. Free tours of the factory are available to the public at regular intervals between 11:00 am and 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
