Top 3 Spots for Fishing in the Poconos 

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission reports that the Keystone State is home to several species of fish, namely different varieties of trout. During trout season, you can count on Brown and Rainbow trout and Brook trout. Here are a few recreation areas to visit in the Poconos for an unforgettable Pennsylvania fishing experience! 

Please note that a fishing license is required to fish most places. You can purchase a license online. Tourist passes range from $26 to $35, depending on how many days you wish to fish. 

1. Lake Wallenpaupack 

Lake Wallenpaupack is a great choice for fishing in the Poconos! The freshwater lake is one of the largest in Pennsylvania and boasts more than 50 miles of shoreline, which makes it a popular choice for a variety of outdoor activities in the Poconos. In the warmer months, visitors can launch their watercraft from the  Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s access point off of State Road 590. Or, relax and cast a line from the shore. 

2. Promised Land State Park

Promised Land State Park is another fantastic option for Poconos fishing during each season. Head to this 422-acre Pennsylvania state park for fishing opportunities that are also ADA-accessible! 

Promised Land State Park is known for a bounty of largemouth and smallmouth bass, pickerel, muskellunge, yellow perch, sunfish, and catfish. Trout are stocked in the Lower Lake and stamp restrictions apply. The lakes at Promised Land State Park are a popular spot for ice fishing, too! Just be sure to review their safety recommendations before heading out. 

3. The Lake Naomi Club at Mountaintop Lodge
