There are so many ways to explore Pennsylvania’s mountain region. From scenic drives in PA to state parks, there are so many ways to explore. Here are five of our favorite Poconos day trip ideas!
1. Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
The Delaware Water Gap is one of the most impressive areas in Pennsylvania. Here, the Delaware River runs between two ridges in the Appalachian Mountains. It’s a great place hike, sightsee, or try watersports. Even better, it’s less than 30 minutes from our lodge!
2. Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm
Did you know that there’s a lot of German history in Pennsylvania? You can learn more about 19th–century German heritage at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm! The living history museum features 114 acres of farmland fun! After your visit, make the 25-minute drive back to Mountaintop Lodge.
3. Grey Towers National Historic Site
Grey Towers National Historic Site is a five-star attraction in Milford, PA. This historical landmark was once home to Gifford Pinchot, who pioneered the U.S. Forest Service and two-time Pennsylvania governor. Here, you can take tours of the mansion or grounds. It’s also only an hour’s drive to Mountaintop Lodge!
4. Shawnee Mountain Ski Area
What’s a mountain region without skiing opportunities? Shawnee Mountain Ski Area is the Pocono’s best ski resort! Head to Shawnee Mountain to enjoy the Poconos snow. Then, make the 30-minute drive back to our lodge where you can rest up for your next adventure!
5. Bushkill Falls
Bushkill Falls, also known as the “Niagra of Pennsylvania” is home to the most impressive waterfalls in our state! Gaze in awe as the falls cascade down 100 feet of naturally carved rock. Just a 45-minute from Mountaintop Lodge, it’s among the best Poconos waterfalls!
