Things to Do This Labor Day Weekend in the Poconos

Outdoor Activities

There are several state parks, forests, and national recreation areas to visit in the Poconos. Since the weather is beginning to cool down around this time, it makes for an excellent opportunity to hike a scenic trail or go horseback riding.

The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is a great place to go if you want to spend the day on routes that lead through meadows, along waterfalls, and to panoramic views. There are several waterfalls here in the Poconos, including Bushkill Falls, popularly known as the “Niagara of Pennsylvania.” You’ll also want to check out Hickory Run State Park and its unique Boulder Field.

If you’re more interested in catching glimpses of native wildlife, visit the Thomas Darling Preserve or the Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge, where you can find a variety of thriving species.

For a high-speed adventure, go whitewater rafting on the rushing Lehigh or the Delaware Rivers. If you’d prefer to take it slow, take a kayak on Lake Naomi.

Experience excitement at high altitudes at Camelback Mountain Adventures. Choose from the various zip line adventures available and treat yourself to breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery. You could also try your hand at the Treetops Adventure Course and walk across swaying bridges, climb vertical cargo nets, and more!

Annual Events in the Poconos This Labor Day Weekend

Stroudfest

Head to downtown Stroudsburg on Saturday, where multiple live music stages, a food court, and fun family activities make Main Street come to life during the annual Stroudfest. Stroll through the eclectic shops and grab a bite to eat at one of the delicious restaurants. The festival starts at 11 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m.

Stop in at the Greene Dreher Sterling Fair for some laid-back excitement! If you visit before 3:00 p.m., you can peruse the Indoor & Outdoor Flea Market and Craft Show for unique treasures. Marvel at the beautiful artwork, pick up some fresh preserves or homemade wine and take a peek at all the animals. You can also participate or watch one of the many contests, which range from a farm tractor pull to a pie eating contest. Of course, it’s a whole different place at night, with the twinkling lights of the whirling rides and the smells of fair food wafting through the air.

Dining and Other Activities

Unwind with a glass of wine at a local vineyard or winery and look out across the expansive views. Or, you can sip at one of their tasting rooms that are convenient to the charming, bustling downtown areas of the local cities. Grab a craft brew in historic Jim Thorpe and browse the collection of shops. Stop in at one of the art galleries in downtown Stroudsburg, or pamper yourself with our Classic Journey Pampering Spa Trip Package.
