Uncover the Best Locations for an Unforgettable Night Sky Adventure

Astronomical Society of Harrisburg

The Astronomical Society of Harrisburg is a non-profit organization that educates the public on astronomy through classes, memberships, and public viewing. If you’re visiting the area and don’t have time to take a six-week class, we recommend the next best thing— attend one of their public observing hours. Harrisburg is on the route from Baltimore to the Poconos, so it’s a great option if you want to stay the night and split up the road trip!

These dates are determined on a yearly basis, although they’re subject to cancelation due to inclement weather. This ultimate stargazing experience is free and you’re able to use their state-of-the-art telescopes to see the stars, planets, galaxies, and more like never before! Reference the calendar to see what’s in the sky during your trip!

Cherry Springs State Park in the Susquehannock State Forest

There are many things about Cherry Springs State Park that make it an amazing place for stargazing in Pennsylvania. Most notably, it’s the sole International Dark Sky Park in the entire state. Dark Sky Parks are “… land possessing an exceptional or distinguished quality of starry nights and a nocturnal environment that is specifically protected for its scientific, natural, educational, cultural heritage, and/or public enjoyment.”

Have the ultimate stargazing experience here! Gaze in awe at the darkest skies in the entire state from the Night Sky Public Viewing Area. Or, summertime visitors can attend the annual Cherry Springs Star Party. Be sure to track this event closely, though, as tickets sell out quickly! Can’t get enough nature? Check out other Pocono state parks!
