Tour the Asa Packer Mansion
One step into the Asa Packer Mansion transports you back to 19th-century life — or at least a glimpse of what life was like. Architect Samuel Sloan built this mansion in 1861, and what a feat that was. It’s technically an 18-room Italianate villa, and it still holds its original furnishings, so you’ll get an authentic glimpse into the past.
Walking tours run seasonally and last about 45 minutes, so plan accordingly. As for what you’ll learn, they walk you through Asa Packer’s legacy and his impact on local history.
One of the most memorable parts of the walking tour is the 1905 Model D Welte Cottage Orchestrion. It’s the only working model in the country and still fills the house with sound. The mansion is an amazing piece of history in the Poconos; you won’t find this experience anywhere else.

Everywhere you look, there’s something to admire and appreciate: the elaborate ceilings and finely crafted floors are hard to miss. Even the decorative hardware on the doors stands out as something spectacular and luxe.
